FAQThe 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions for Youth Leagues1. When is Practice? Each team is coached by volunteer parents who devote their time to train the team. With this in mind practices are held once a week at the coaches availability. Coaches will give ample notice time so that you may plan your schedules accordingly. 2. How many games are during the week? Each league has one game per week however, on a limited occasion 2 games might be played in order to be made-up if necessary. 3. When does the program begin? After registration night, games begin approximately 2 weeks thereafter. After draft night, coaches will call each player on the team to hold a practice before game 1. 4. Can I request to be on a certain team? In order to ensure parity in all of our youth programs, a draft is conducted to pick fair and balanced teams. Children are drafted onto teams based on their evaluation scores, which are given on registration night. We do try accommodating requests, however nothing is guaranteed. 5. How do I find out my child’s schedule? A league schedule will be handed out at the first game of the season. Look for the coach’s name and your team number. All 10 games will have dates and times of play. Playoff schedules will be handed out at the last game of the season. Each daily our JCC hotline is updates with the day’s schedule. You may call it anytime for your child’s game time that night. The number is (305) 932-4200 extension 123. 6. How can I get involved? As a parent you can get involved in many ways: a. Coaching- You do not need to be Pat Riley or Don Shula. Volunteer coaching for youth’s is a very rewarding mitzvah, especially for your children. Practice sessions are very flexible as it can fit into your personal schedule. The JCC professional staff is always available to assist you in your needs. b. Team Mom- A team mom is a very important component to a successful team. Team mom’s keep the team organized by keeping team members and their families up to date with team events such as games, practices, picture days, etc. c. Sponsor- Become a major part of a team by “owning” it. Sponsoring a team is a great way to promote your business while at the same time giving back to your community. 7. When do I need to pay by? Payment is required one night before draft night. Any child that is not paid by in full by the deadline will be dropped from the draft and therefore out of the league. Please bring payments to the registration office before the deadline. Deadlines are printed on the newsletter that you will receive upon leaving registration and evaluation night. 8. What is the competition level? Each league is at an average competition level. We do understand that players and coaches like to win however we stress a positive experience and good sportsmanship. In our youth leagues, the JCC prides itself in our policy that all children get a chance to play. 9. If my child has never played this sport before, can he or she play in the league? Yes. Children will learn through practices and game situations. We encourage these children to ask questions and try hard so that the learning process can speed up. 10. When do uniforms come in? It is hard to guarantee. Uniforms are likely to be no later than by game 3. Coaches will notify players on what color shirt to wear for game 1 and 2. |
